Ftx Military - During basic combat training, soldiers learn to overcome fear by navigating obstacles from a confidence course or jumping down Tower Warrior. They improve their physical fitness through endurance training and other physical exercises. They learn basic military skills such as land navigation and marksmanship.

As they train, they begin to learn the tactical skills they need to succeed on the battlefield. This is part of their training called FTX.

FTX stands for field training, and it is divided into three separate phases: FTX 1, FTX 2 and FTX 3, according to Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Sneed, Company A, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, drill sergeant.

Adapting To The Environment: Soldiers Test Essential Skills In Field Training

"This is the creep phase where the trainees learn the basics," he said. "In FTX 2, we're in the walking stage. We're actually doing, going through and showing the coaches the right way to do the job.

In FTX 3, the Soldier is in the running phase, and the drill sergeant will be evaluating more than directing because the trainees must be able to complete the task with minimal supervision, added Sneed.

On August 31, trainers from A Company, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, deployed for FTX 2.

"Students will work on noise and light discipline. They will have to work on difficult passwords so if someone comes into their area, they know how to stop that person and identify them as friend or foe," said Sgt. 1st Class Michael Minix, Company A, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, drill sergeant.

"Coaches must also learn how to act and move as a member of a team and squad. They must work in different tactical formations, how to react to contact and how to cross areas of dangerous lines such as; as a road or a river bed," said Minnix.

"We're working on the basics of being out in the woods, basically what it's like in real life," said Pfc. Abagayle MacLeod, A Company Trainee. "I am learning how to adapt to the environment, what to look for and how to pay attention to details."

The skills they learn during the FTX portion of basic training will carry them throughout their careers.

"We're training these trainees to fight the enemy outside the wire. What we're doing here is training and testing and establishing muscle memory so that when they go out into the real world, into real combat, they know what to do. WEST POINT, N.Y. - After receiving weeks of instruction on strategy and the basics of warfare, cadet field training finally culminated with the Class of 2024 cadets performing various military procedures during a June 19-23 field training exercise at Camp Buckner. Cadets apply everything they learn during CFT to conduct a variety of exercises such as contact response, squad attack, squad defense, various forms of tactical training, and night patrol, among other training activities.

With a combination of heavy rain, 40-pound gear, and missions designed to simulate real-life combat scenarios, the cadets came away from the experience more determined.

Class of 2024 Cadet Ethan Fuhrman thoroughly enjoyed his training experience despite the obstacles he faced. The mental and physical challenges of FTX made him stronger and mentally prepared to face future challenges that may have seemed daunting at first, he said.

"The training was fun. I like my team and it was good to spend more time with them. The people around me definitely made the experience better because last night [in the night training] we were really cold and everything was wet with rain, "said Furman. "We had more rain than we expected, so it was more difficult for me to deal with wet clothes during this tactical exercise. The weather plays a psychological role in the execution of the mission".

Regardless of the challenges the training presented, Fuhrman still enjoyed the many exercises he did, especially the night operations.

"I'm not sure if there's an easy side to practice, but the most fun part of practice is the night we're going to attack and have to defend our position," Furman said. "We stay awake for several hours each shift, and everyone on the shift has to be ready to defend against enemy threats. So basically, defending against the unknown is one of the highlights of my training experience.

FTX has three components, as cadets begin with a one-on-one training event called "Soldier Tasks and Training". This training is aimed at giving cadets a basic understanding of the use of critical equipment such as radios and weapons, essentially giving them hands-on experience.

The second component is team and squad level training called "intro patrol". Members of the 2nd Security Forces Brigade (SFAB) out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, came to Camp Buckner and taught cadets basic unit-level drills and exercises.

"This unit is designed to train other international forces," said Major Joseph Ryan, 200th Department of Military Training instructor of Military Strategy. "This year we're bringing them out again to help us teach our cadets some basic infantry-level tactics at the team, squad and platoon level. It's a two-day exercise. So all of the individual and teamwork skills that the cadets develop are used during this FTX.

The third component, as part of FTX, tests the cadets' ability to fight in simulated combat scenarios against units called OPFOR (opposing forces) to evaluate them in contact and ambush training, among other skills. .

"There are many events that are all spread out during CFT. Some of these events are graduation requirements, there are also launch requirements that must be met, such as weapon system qualification, land navigation, team live fire, but, FTX is designed primarily for the leadership component to see how you lead your friend, "Ryan. said. "It's basically a challenge to take the lead and lead. FTX shows how they can lead their peers.

Army Cadets Navigate Their Way At Ftx

Class of 2024 Cadet Edward Jung said he understands the practical value of learning basic infantry tactics, though he wants a career field that doesn't emphasize combat.

"We do a lot of infantry training. Personally, I want the aviation branch. An individual outside the circle might think: "Why train infantry if it's not the focal point of your career?" Well, I feel that basic infantry training sets the basic standard for every cadet, wherever he is. wants to branch out," said Jung. "And then, as they progress through training, they eventually learn the specific trade they want to pursue. That's a big part of what I learned during this detail."

Jung also learned the importance of friendship, cooperation, and what it means to be honest with yourself. Because FTX has been defined and set as a challenge environment.

It is only a matter of time before the excited trainees realize that when the challenge has reached its highest difficulty, they are now different at this difficult point in their training than when they first started, Jung said.

Jung echoed Fuhrman's sentiments about the terrible weather, but said rainy days, wet clothes and cold nights build character for each Cadet. He added that the FTX experience helped him realize that when you face a new level of adversity, it reveals your true self.

There are times of frustration during practice when things don't always work out. However, through difficulties, he was able to establish a strong bond with his peers.

"In detail this is probably the first time I met some of my friends at this school. I know for sure that when I graduate I will remain friends with these people. That's what it's all about, facing adversity and overcoming it together as a team," said Jung. "I would say, in a strange way, because it got worse it got better. The more you practice, the more you know you're learning and getting better. When you go through this difficult time in your life, you cultivate your true self.
