The Type 039 submarines (NATO reporting name: Song-class) are a class of diesel-electric submarines of the People's Liberation Army Navy. The class is China's first fully developed diesel-electric submarine and also the first Chinese diesel-electric submarine to use a teardrop hull design.

Submarines use modern teardrop-shaped vessels for underwater operations. The spacecraft has four rudders and is driven by a single propeller. This gin was imported from Germany.

For quiet operation, the genie was fitted with loudspeakers and its body was lined with rubber tiles to deaden sound. Development was not without problems, as evidenced by the test period for the first ship (320). Problems with noise levels and underwater performance led to design revisions and only one boat was built as originally described.
Improvements led to the specification of the Type 039G, which became the bulk of production with the type in service. The first clue to the Variant G's identity is the elimination of the stair design for the conning tower. There are two versions of this class: original Type 039, Type 039G. The most visible difference between the two types is the conning tower. The Type 039 coning tower is step on, rear mounted. In an effort to reduce the submarine's acoustic signature, the Type 039G conning tower was given a more traditional stepless design.
The primary armament for the Type 039 was the 533 mm U-4 torpedo, a 40-knot (74 km/h) locally produced torpedo based on the SAET-50 and comparable to the SAET-60. Surface targets can be attacked up to 15 km away. U-6 wire-guided torpedoes can be used to target submarines. It is also believed that the Type 039 can carry the YJ-8 anti-ship missile, a cruise missile that can be launched from the same tube as a ship's torpedo and can target surface ships up to 80 km away. The missile is subsonic and has a warhead of 165 kg. For mining, instead of torpedoes, submarines can carry 24 to 36 mines, which can be launched through torpedo tubes. Inventor of Torpedo and Missile Launching System Shri. Sun Zhuguo (孙柱国, 1937-), and the launch system is compatible with Chinese and Russian/Soviet AShM, ASW, torpedoes.
Although the Type 039 has successfully attempted to fire a CY-1 ASW missile into water like a Yuan-class submarine, the status of the missile is questionable as mass production has not been heard of. The CY-1 ASW missile has a maximum range of 18 km (10 nm).

The main ssor is a broad sonar mounted on the bow of a submarine, with passive and active modes, used for detection and attack. In addition, the system provides an underwater communication method, and acts as a torpedo warning system. This sonar is a Chinese development of the Frch Thomson-CSF TSM-2233 sonar, and can track 4 to 12 targets simultaneously. To enhance passive detection capability, a low frequency sonar in the form of a Fruch Thomson-CSF TSM-2255 is installed next to the trunk, which has a range of over 30 km and can track four objective eyes simultaneously. The system is further enhanced by the introduction of a Chinese locally operated sonar known as the H/SQG-04 sonar. For surface detection, a small I-band radar is installed.
This class is the first Chinese submarine equipped with Electronic Support Measures / Radio Direction Finder / Radar Warning System designated as SRW209 Submarine Radar Reconnaissance Equipment, which operates in the S - Ku band with a detection rate of 100%. The SRW209 is fully automatic and can be used by a single operator with a color CRT console (which can be replaced with an LCD) display console, or connected to a combat data system, which can monitor- multipurpose eyes. You should know: China's newest Type-039 submarine has some changes from the older design that suggest it has a different mission.
The People's Liberation Army Navy's new submarine, codenamed Type-039C, made headlines in June 2021 when social media outlets announced that the new submarine moves with the help of several guide boats.
While information about the new submarine has surfaced — some specific, some speculative — there is more concrete information about the new submarine. This we know, a "deep dive" type.

Type-039 and its derivatives are known as Yuan-class. The first of the class, the Type-039A, first appeared in Chinese shipyards in 2006 and surprised many naval experts. Since the class entered PLAN service, several variants have subsequently been introduced with the main external difference between them being the subsails.
The first Yuan, the Type-039A, featured a clear, boxy hull that was compared to the Soviet Kilo class that China purchased from Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. Another Yuan derivative, called the Type-039B, featured a more refined and quieter hull that could produce a "floating" sound at sea, and was therefore more difficult to monitor when in and out of the water.
The Type-039C Yuan has the most complex sail design of the three. Recent Yuan vessels have been noted, possibly reflecting the new sector's emphasis on land-based activities. Although speculative, the chained sail is reminiscent of a type of stealth rigging used on stealth aircraft and some ships to avoid enemy radar and remain undetected.
One possible application for submarines with "stealth" hulls could be for special operations for insertion and extraction when surfaced submarines would be most vulnerable, although this remains speculative.
Understanding China's Submarine Capabilities
Most importantly, although the shapes of the various Yuan vessels differ, their vessels seem to fit more or less in the same space in the hull and are of the same size. This may be an indication that all three Type-039s retain their primary mission specifications for naval warfare.
Given the recent news of the latest Type-039C and the lack of information surrounding it and its exotic ship, it would be too early to say whether the ship represents a new Yuan-class standard, unique design or research platform. Diver to test new technology.
Although the People's Liberation Army uses the Type-039 and variants, it has also sold special export versions of the Type-039 abroad, both to Thailand and Pakistan. Perhaps this latest Yuan-class variant will also be exported eventually.
Caleb Larson is a security writer based in Europe. He has a master's in public policy and covers American and Russian security, European security issues, and German politics and culture. It is the backbone of the Chinese Navy's Submarine Force (PLAN). The Yuan class of AIP equipment now looks set for another major upgrade. The latest version, which was first seen in May this year, may show that the PLAN will once again apply to maritime technology. It is also a sign that they are innovating and creating their own path.
China's Navy Has Quietly Commissioned A New Submarine For Its Eastern Fleet
Few details have emerged about the latest upgrade, tentatively codenamed Type-039C by Western analysts. What is clear, however, is that it is very different, and in a sense, more capable than the previous version. I did a 'What We Know' article for Naval News. This article is a deep dive and includes additional ideas.
On the outside, the new boat has a unique new canopy with a chin running along the top which creates a tighter look. This is similar to the Swedish A-26 design. But the similarity is only superficial. Other improvements, potentially more impressive, include integrated circuits and possibly a new anechoic coating.

When it first appeared in Chinese shipyards in 2006, the Type-039A Yuan-class submarine caused quite a stir. Firstly it sounds more modern than the previous song category, and secondly because it was not pre-announced. China has repeatedly reminded that it can build submarines without prior notice to the West. Other countries, in general, cannot build submarines with such stealth, which is part of what makes Chinese submarines so interesting. And in May 2021 they did it again with this latest version.

The label on the Yuan variant is unclear. Reliable Chinese sources have not yet confirmed the official line, leaving Western observers to speculate. In general, however, there are three main iterations of the class, distinguished by sail. The original Type-039A had a clean straight hull with nearly vertical sides. Overall, the ship bears a clear impression of the Russian KILO class, which China is operating.
